Researchers from Google DeepMind have unveiled AlphaGeometry2, an enhanced version of their previous system, achieving performance beyond that of average gold medalists in solving International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) geometry problems.
Key Highlights:
Expanded Language Capabilities: AlphaGeometry2 extends its domain-specific language to address more complex problems, including those involving object movements and linear equations of angles, ratios, and distances. This enhancement has increased the system's coverage of IMO geometry problems from 66% to 88%.
Improved Search Process: The system incorporates the Gemini architecture for superior language modeling and introduces a novel knowledge-sharing mechanism that combines multiple search trees, significantly enhancing its problem-solving efficiency.
Enhanced Performance: With these advancements, AlphaGeometry2 has achieved an 84% solving rate for all IMO geometry problems from the past 25 years, a substantial improvement from the previous 54%. Notably, it contributed to a system that reached a silver-medal standard at IMO 2024.
